Ko Olina Lagoons Family Photos

Ko Olina Lagoons are 4 distinct lagoons with calm water and rock walls near the Disney resort on Oahu. Each lagoon is similar in that they have parking lots, stunning views, manicured greenery, and palm trees. This is a great spot to come relax as a family.

In this session, we aimed for a golden hour glow without the silhouette marked by the end of sunset. Hence we started a bit earlier and did a mix of backlit and sunlit images with motion. One of my favorite things to do with a family is hear what makes the kids excited. Their little one absolutely loves the water - so having her run through the water was priceless.

I recommend having a hair tie on hand for your kids and maybe even yourself. This is particularly handy for the running shots, where a breeze or downward glance could send strands in front of the eyes. I find that motion and fun activities during photo sessions allows us to relax, act natural, and enjoy the process. It’s a good way to ease the stiffness associated with traditional posed family shoots. I like to understand what’s important to the family and direct the imagery accordingly.
